“My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not stumbled.” Psalm 17:5

Where are your feet taking you today?

Standing on the Rock

January, 2012

Dear Traveler,

Now I’m more convinced than ever that we had better have a firm and solid foundation or we will not survive the days ahead.   These are exciting days to be living in.  I’m constantly reminded of the words to the old hymns How Firm a Foundation–I’ll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand” and “On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand–“My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.  On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.”   These songs were written in the 1700’s, but are just as relevant today as they were then.

The question for us today is what are you standing on — Christ the Solid Rock or Sinking Sand?  I would like to challenge you to stand firm on Christ and to stand on the edge of what He wants to do in your life.  Living on the edge…what if, instead of letting what we see determine what we do, we let our faith drive our actions?

Have you ever stood on the edge of something really big, maybe the Grand Canyon?  The Atlantic Ocean? Or anything that made you think, “I am so small and God is so big?”  Maybe it wasn’t an actual physical edge, but something a little more figurative, like a new challenge or new phase of life.  The first day of high school?  The last day of college?  A new job? A new difficulty? A missions trip?  Or just any situation packed with extreme potential and uncertainty all at the same time.  When standing on the edge, you especially want to make sure you’re standing on something solid and firm.  The edge can be exciting.  It can be scary.  It can cause your stomach to do back flips and tempt you to retreat to safer ground.  But many times, it’s exactly where God wants us to be, because that’s where we find Him.  He is that solid rock and firm foundation.  The edge is where real life happens;  it’s that place that turns the routine and mundane into the eternal.

The edge is where we learn to trust Him.  We have two choices;  trust God or make a run for it.  The Word of God is packed with promises for those of us who can muster faith to trust Him and stand firm.  This life can be yours.   I have tasted it and watched others experience it.  My passion is that you will dare to step out to the dramatic and exciting edge of life — that place in life where you are in sync with God and feel alive and vibrant and filled with purpose.  And though the edge is a bit scary at times, this life is filled with passion, risk and reward.  So fasten your spiritual seatbelt as we embark on a journey that will lead you to the edge.  Come join us this year to pursue the dreams and passions God created you to fulfill and choose to trust God, for He is the only solid rock we will ever truly stand on that will not crumble.

Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.  Psalm 62:2
