Hurricane Katrina slammed into the Gulf
Coast Monday morning August 29th as one of the most
destructive storms in U.S. history, forcing the evacuation of more
than a million people who don’t know when-or if-they will be able to
return to their homes.
Vessels of Mercy International along
with Samaritan’s Purse is dispatching its Disaster Relief Units and
mobilizing volunteer workers to help repair as many homes as
possible. Our teams are ready to serve the victims of these areas.
The self supporting Disaster Relief
Units specialize in serving the poor and elderly in locations that
may be overlooked by the media or other relief agencies.
Vessels of Mercy International along
with Samaritan’s Purse will organize and equip teams of volunteers
to work on hundreds of houses. Crews with chain saws and heavy
equipment will remove fallen trees from houses and streets. Other
teams will cover damaged roofs with weatherproof plastic.
The Disaster Relief Units work in
partnership with local churches to ensure that spiritual needs are
met, too. Teams pray with residents and present them with a Bible
when the work is completed.
Vessels of Mercy International, Inc. has
developed a partnership with Samaritan’s Purse and has worked on
many disaster sites with them through the years of Disaster Relief
work across the United States. Last year alone our combined efforts
helped replace or repair 1,528 houses in Florida, Alabama and North
Carolina that were hit by Hurricane Charley, Ivan, Frances and
Jeanne.
Please pray for the many thousands of
men, women, and children who have lost virtually everything as a
result of Hurricane Katrina. Remember the government officials,
military personnel, churches, and relief organizations that are
responding to this catastrophe. Ask God to guide us into the
communities where He wants us involved.
Here are some ways your financial gift
can help victims of Hurricane Katrina:
·
$25 can furnish a sheet of roofing plywood
·
$90 can provide enough heavy-duty plastic to weatherproof a roof
Help us as we go and provide hope to
victims of the storm and let them know that God cares about their
needs.
