Vessels of Mercy International

Bringing Hope to New Orleans in 2007

Over 19months ago, Hurricane Katrina ripped through the Gulf Coast area destroying thousands of homes and lives.  Vessels of Mercy International has been there from the beginning helping the survivors and we are still there. Although a lot has been done, it seems that in the New Orleans area little has changed since that dreadful day. Thousands of homes and businesses still sit destroyed with all of the homeowners’ belongings and store merchandise still inside, wet, molding and rotting. Worst of all, Hope seems to be gone.

In March 2007 this six member women’s team brought Hope to New Orleans on a Disaster Relief Ministry Project.  The team spent time working in the food distribution center, talking with the local residents and preparing homes for the rebuilding process by stripping out the flooring, insulation, drywall and doing mold remediation.  Many of the people feel so hopeless and depressed  as they try to survive in this area of disaster with no jobs. Many areas still have no running sewer or water.  There are no simple answers to the numerous problems that New Orleans faces. The best thing that we can leave them with to help them rebuild not only their homes, but, their lives is the hope found only in Jesus Christ.  Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we continue to help restore lives and hope here in our homeland.
